HILLESLEY LATEST

June 2009

8th Great Hillesley Bike Ride

This year's ride offers three routes - 28+, 22+ and 15+ miles. All the rides start together, meeting at 10.45am for an 11am start, at the War Memorial in Hillesley. We have an undulating morning, and a flattish but interesting afternoon. A couple of busier roads to cross over on the longer rides - that enables us to get into some totally 'different' scenery though.

Lots and lots of pub stops on offer, with pub lunches available at most places.

Entry forms do need to be with us by Wed 10th June 2009 so we can work with the pubs for lunch numbers and pre-booking of menus where applicable.

Photographs of previous year rides are up on the website... click here...

The Fleece Inn can't do a hog roast again this year, but are putting on a hot dog and burger bbq for us all, so hope to see you there around 6pm if you can't make it on the ride?

Thanks again! Sandy & Chris Hicks

Planning

There is a free e-mail alert service offered by Stroud District Council to receive information about any planning applications within 100 metres of your postcode. Sign up at www.stroud.gov.uk - and even the plans are online so no more visiting the council offices.

Hillesley Tennis Club

A very productive AGM - with lots to talk about. Please come along to our club sessions on Tuesdays 6pm, Thursdays 9.30am and Sundays 10.30am - good social tennis.

Our monthly 'first Sunday of every month' will be an opportunity for adult members to get together for some social tennis and a bite of cake. Please do come along and join in.

Hillesley Allotment Association

The allotments are now all taken!!! A waiting list has been drawn up, so should you fancy a go at 'growing your own' please contact Heather Cooke to come up and have a look at how you can have your very own slice of paradise!

Clay Pigeon Shoots

The enforcement officer has contacted the shooting club on the Kingswood Road, and as a result, the shooting has dropped back down to its allowable useage of a maximum of 28 days per year, so every other Sunday.

Should planning permission be sought for a 'formal' shooting club/venue (and the obvious implications of potentially seven days a week of shooting!) villagers will be notified through the website and Hillesley Happenings so that a fair opportunity to comment can be given to those that are most impacted (unfortunately it is Kingswood parish council that would receive the application for comments, not Hillesley & Tresham parish council - yet we are the ones most impacted!). Watch this space.

New Webmaster...

Having developed and updated the website for some eight years, the time has come for some new fresh ideas and input... please let me (Sandy 521295) know if you'd be interested in taking over the website. It is a useful village resource and doesn't take too much time.
