| Nine of us arrived at Hotel La Ferme in Avignon ready for a week of good cycling terrain (a few hills and a few river valleys) fuelled by great Provencal food and spurred on by great company! Sebastian guided us admirably, always encouraging us to do 'just one more' hill! |

Sunday - Avignon-Roussillon
A lovely hotel...this is a picture of Mark in the courtyard as we left on the Sunday morning.

Leaving the hotel, we cycled past fields and fields of sunflowers!

Mark took this photo of us as we nearer the top of the first long steep climb. A tough day for a mere 25 miles! |
Gordes
The reason for the climbing became apparent when we arrived at the top of the top of the just one more hill... Gordes! A very pretty village situated... you guessed it... at the TOP of the hill. And then we cycled back down the other side... you can see the flat in the distance... bliss!

Roussillon was an amazing painting of rich ochres, reds, creams and yellows... a beautiful walk through mined areas leads to you the cliffs below.

An easier 38 miles today.
