| We spent two weeks in this
amazingly beautiful area of France... drove from home, crossed
by way of Plymouth to Roscoff ferry, and on down to Cap Ferret.
We camped here for four nights at Les Viviers, a very good campsite,
situated about 10K from Cap Ferret, and surrounded by pine forests.
Excellent cycle paths led to about 50K of deserted beaches. Then
we drove to Les Eyzies and joined the Chain Gang on another wonderful
gastronomic cycling tour of the Dordogne - about 190 miles over
six days. Fourteen of us, guided by Ciaron, bravely struggled
up mountains and down hills every day in order to stuff ourselves
on foie gras, duck, sandre and more foie gras, duck and sandre
every evening! |

'Twas cloudy, to be sure, but
we did have the entire beach to ourselves, and the sun did come
out shortly afterwards (honest!). |
| The cycle paths meandered for
miles through pine forests of differing maturity levels - always
quiet, peaceful and generally FLAT! |

We cycled to Cap Ferret to
find ourselves on the most amazing coastline looking out at Arcachon
- the largest sand-dune in the world. You can just make it out
in the distance. |
| So, pleasantly relaxed, and
having cycled some 15 to 20 miles a day, we concluded that we
must be fit and ready to join the Chain Gang on a six-day cycling
tour of the Dordogne Valley. |
